frequently asked questions

What kind of investments is DCV looking for?

We are looking for early-stage companies that are innovators in producing clean energy, clean food and clean water. Local solutions to these problems are preferred. Our investment process is very personal: we invest in people first and businesses second. We want to create a long-term partnership, so it is essential that our personalities and objectives are compatible.

What information does DCV require to consider an investment?

We first want to see a two-page executive summary outlining the company's plans, including a description of your products or services (be sure to tell us if your technology is proprietary), the market opportunity and its growth potential, a profile of your customers or prospects, a thumbnail sketch of your competition, brief backgrounds on the management team, and how much capital you would like to raise. Send the executive summary via email to either Peter Rogers or David Smith. If we're interested, we'll get right back to you to schedule a meeting.

What is the expected relationship between DCV and the company?

DCV rarely makes passive investments. We are looking principally for opportunities to get involved, to utilize our experience and contacts, and to help the management team grow the business.

Is DCV interested in a quick return on investment?

No. DCV is interested in working with founders and managers to build successful businesses. Wherever possible, we focus on businesses whose products and services improve the planet's prospects. Because we work primarily with start-ups that may be doing something radically new, we are prepared for a long journey. We are confident if the business is innovative, successful and sustainable, everyone involved will realize a substantial reward – economically and psychically.

What size investments does DCV make?

Initial investments range from $200,000 to $500,000. We structure the investment to be mutually beneficial, which means we sometimes buy common stock and sometimes make convertible loans. We usually participate in all subsequent offerings. Because we focus on early-stage companies, we typically reserve the Series A for a major financing with a leading venture partner. One of our objectives is to help prepare the company for a Series A.

Who are DCV's limited partners?

We don't have any limited partners. DCV's funds are provided exclusively by its Managing Members (partners). That means you will be working with a senior professional who has committed his/her time and money to help you grow your business.
